What You Need to Know About Meta’s Actions on Inactive Business Portfolio Users and Ad Accounts
Why Meta Is Removing Inactive Users and Accounts
To improve security and streamline performance, Meta is automatically removing inactive users from Business Portfolios. This helps ensure that only people who are actively managing, monitoring, or collaborating on your Facebook business assets have access.
Inactive users are those who haven’t logged in or engaged with Meta’s tools within the last 6 months. If someone on your team hasn’t touched the platform in months (or years), they could be removed.
Closing Inactive Ad Accounts
In addition to user removals, Meta is also disabling ad accounts that have been inactive for 15 months or more. An ad account may be considered inactive if it hasn’t launched a campaign, shared an audience, shared a pixel, or recorded any billing activity within a certain time frame.
When these accounts are flagged, Meta may restrict access or close them altogether to maintain platform quality and reduce clutter across the ad ecosystem.
How to Stay Active and Avoid Removal
Here are a few easy ways to ensure your business stays in good standing:
- Log in regularly: Even if you’re not running ads every day, checking in on your Business Manager account at least monthly helps keep your access intact.
- Rotate campaigns: Consider running low-budget awareness campaigns to keep accounts active and data flowing.
- Maintain team roles: Regularly audit who has access to your portfolio and remove outdated team members manually before Meta does it for you.
- Engage with tools: Use Meta tools like Business Suite, Ads Manager, or Page Insights to show activity.
Can You Restore a Removed User or Closed Ad Account?
Yes, but there’s a limited window of 3 months to reverse the action in the Security Center of Meta Business. If a user was removed, you can re-invite them as long as they still meet Meta’s requirements. If your ad account was closed, you may be able to request a review or create a new account linked to your existing portfolio. After the 3-month period, you will need to add the person or reactivate your ad account manually.
